The political administration of Kurram Agency has constructed 10 flood protection spurs in Airo Kale and Meer Badsha Colon in Kurram Agency, which has benefited the local community by saving their agricultural lands from future flooding.
A press release issued by the Directorate of Information Fata on Tuesday said the protection spurs would not only benefit approximately 3,500 individuals of these villages but also protect 500 acres of prime agricultural land and protect another 200 acres of already damaged land. The Political Administration prioritised the project and completed construction of these 10 flood protection spurs in a short period of time.
It is worth mentioning that the inhabitants of these villages are directly dependent upon agriculture as a source of livelihood. The press release added that the political authorities of Kurram Agency also completed a modern irrigation facility for the Arab Shah Baba community in order to improve its irrigation and agriculture system.
The project was completed through the construction of a dug well, a 10,000-gallon surface reservoir and installation of a 183-meter long irrigation channel to irrigate 30 acres of land. The project will provide irrigation facilities to approximately 200 individuals. The local people have thanked the government for these projects and expressed hope that it would help the people engage in farming on their land to get livelihood opportunities at their doorsteps.
