Business Community has welcomed the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) decision to reduce certificate of origin fee from Rs 1000 to Rs 100 per shipment. Recent past the TDAP has abruptly increased the certificate of origin fee from Rs 25 per export consignment to Rs 1000 or by 3900 percent.
However after hue and cry from business community and holding meetings with stakeholders the TDAP decided to reduce it from Rs 1000 to Rs 100 per shipment The Chairman, Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, Syed Johar Ali Qandhari said that a meeting with the Chief executive of TDAP, Tariq Puri was held in his office wherein the issue of steep rise in issuance of GSP certificate was discussed.
The exporters had also raised the issue of phenomenal rise of fee from Rs 25 to Rs 1, 000 announced by TDAP about a few days back and TDAP chief decided to revise his decision in this regard. KATI Chief, Johar Qandhari, business leader, S M Muneer while welcoming the decision said that it is good gesture as the TDAP has realised the situation and reversed the fee increase.
Dawood Usman Jhakura, Vice President FPCCI represented the FPCCI in the meeting said that FPCCI records its appreciation and extends its thanks to the Chief Executive of TDAP for responding to the concern shown by the exporters. He agreed to the proposal of the FPCCI to reduce the fee from Rs 1000.00 to Rs 100.00 per form.
Acting President Karachi Chamber of Commerce (KCCI) Talat Mahmood representing chamber in the meeting lauded TDAP for consideration and the move is highly appreciated keeping in view the present economic circumstances and high cost of doing business.
This a certainly a welcome step taken by the TDAP which will be much appreciated by the exporters, said Zonal Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA), Mohammad Jawed Chinoy. We persistently took up this matter with the relevant authorities explaining to them that the industry cannot bear such a heavy increase in these difficult times, he added. Here, we also appreciate the role of TDAP in this matter and they were very co-operative in hearing our plight and took an immediate and timely decision to help the export industry especially for the small scale exporting units, he added.
