Provinces need to be taken on board regarding introduction of cost-effective water treatment technologies at the gross-root level to ensure provision of safe and easy water treatment practices to the masses.
This was stated by Federal Minister for Environment, Hameedullah Jan Afridi while addressing an orientation session "Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS)", organised by Sustainable Development Policy Institute, here on Thursday.
"Water is the basic necessity of life and people are facing severe problems regarding drinking water, provision of proper sanitation and sewerage facilities," said Afridi, adding that there are several methods to make water germ-free. He further said that contaminated drinking water causes fatal diseases like diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid and hepatitis A & E, therefore citizens should use only treated water and always adopt basic principles of hygiene to remain healthy and active. He stressed that there is a need to involve civil society and other stakeholders to disseminate the message of clean drinking water for healthy life.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Secretary, Kamran Ali Qureshi said that a huge amount is required for provision of clean drinking water system, however, it is imperative for every citizen to ensure appropriate measures for purifying water. He also said that such sort of projects could help availability of clean drinking water.
