France on Thursday condemned the assassination of Governor Punjab Salmaan Taseer and reaffirmed determination to side the government in face of challenges. A statement from the French embassy said; "Governor Taseer was a leading political figure, known for his courage in defending his country's democratic institutions."
"France offers condolences to Governor Taseer's family and close friends and the Pakistani authoorities," the statement said. "France reaffirms determination to remain at the Pakistani government's side in the face of the many challenges it must take up."
