The parents of Justice Javed Iqbal of Supreme Court - Abdul Hameed and Aamna Hameed - were found dead at his residence in Calvery Ground here on Tuesday night. CCPO Lahore said they were strangled to death by some unknown persons at the residence of Justice Javed Iqbal, Street No 07, 164 Calvery ground. Justice Iqbal's father was a retired senior police official.
Police cordoned off the area and started investigation. Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, provincial Law Minister Rana Sana ullah, senator Pervez Rashid, Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Judges of the higher courts, President Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jehangir, Commissioner, DCO Lahore, CCPO Lahore and other high officials reached the house immediately.
President and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani expressed their grief over the tragic death of Justice Iqbal's parents. Interior minister Rehman Malik also constituted a joint investigation team to investigate the incident. Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif directed IG police to investigate the incident.
Provincial Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah said all the aspects of the case would be minutely considered because Justice Javed Iqbal was proceeding with the case of missing persons. President Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jehangir has announced a mourning day would be observed on Wednesday against the killing of Justice Iqbal's parents.
APP adds: Parents of Justice Javed Iqbal were murdered on resistance to a robbery attempt at their Cavalry ground private residence here on Tuesday night. Supreme Court Justice Javed Iqbal's father Abdul Hameed, a retired DIG in Punjab police, and mother Amna Hameed were found dead in their house in the cantonment area.
SP Cantt Jawad Qamar, while talking to the media said that the deceased were strangled to death by some unidentified killers. The official said that no signs of torture were visible on the bodies of the victims. The police have taken the street security guard into custody for interrogation into the murder.
