KESC ends loadshedding in industrial zones: SSGC increases gas supply to 80 MMCFD

The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has completely stopped load shedding in all five industrial zones of the City as SSGC increased gas supply to 80 MMCFD from below 30 MMCFD. Official at KESC told Business Recorder that as SSGC has increased gas supply from below 30 to 80 MMCFD, which helped the single fuel generation units to resume functioning, the KESC has completely stopped load shedding in all five industrial zones of the City.
He said that the KESC was supplying uninterrupted electricity to the industrial zones since 15 months. However, on Sunday due to drastic cut to gas supply in the afternoon from SSGC, KESC faced shortfall in power generation and was left with no option but to exercise load shedding in industrial areas, he added.
He said KESC's minimum gas requirement during winter is 110 MMCFD which is still not being supplied however KESC expects to receive 110 MMCFD in a couple of days which would help maintain usual load management schedule.
He said the cabinet committee had approved gas quota of 276 mmcfd for KESC to match the power demand of the city. KESC had never received 276 mmcfd gas as per full approved quota while only in 2009 the gas supply reached to 275 mmcfd, he added.
