The German Parliamentarians on Thursday assured of their country's all-out support to Government of Pakistan for steering the country out of the present economic and energy crisis and vowed to join hands in struggle against terrorism and poverty.
They also agreed to further consolidate existing parliamentary relations between the Parliament of Pakistan and German Bundestag. The German Parliamentary delegation led by Dr Schockenhoff, MP called on Acting Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi in Parliament House. Faisal Karim Kundi said that Pakistan attaches great value to its strategic relations with Germany which are based on mutual understanding, friendship and economic partnership.
He said that both the nations share common insight on issues and support each other on all regional and global forums. He said that Pakistan being a frontline state in the war against terror has been badly affected by the insurgents operating in Afghanistan.
He said that Pakistan was trying to root-out that evil from the country through its indigenous resources; however, support from friendly countries would supplement its efforts. He expressed the need for further enhancing parliamentary ties between parliaments of both the countries. The Acting Speaker informed the German MPs that Pak-Germany Friendship Group in National Assembly has been activated and future interaction between parliamentarians of both the countries would help them exchange views and experiences.
The Acting Speaker also stressed for enhancing economic co-operation between business communities of both the countries. He said that immense economic potential exist in both the countries which need to be grabbed for mutual benefit of both the nations. He said that Germany being an important Member of the European Union could play a vital role for allowing greater excess to the Pakistani products in European markets. He thanked the people and government of Germany for its support for the flood affected people in Pakistan.
Dr Schockenhoff said that Germany also attaches great value to its relations with Pakistan and needs to further cement them. He said that Pakistan is an important country in the region and it was a strong desire of their country to see Pakistan a prosperous and stable country, which was also in the interest of the region and the world. He agreed for enhancing relations between parliamentarians of both the countries. He assured the Acting Speaker of Germany's continued support and co-operation in diverse fields.
