Pakistani Parliamentarians on Thursday asked the international community to recognise sacrifices made by Pakistan in war on terror, as it was doing more than any other country in fighting extremism and terrorism.
Speaking at a bilateral symposium 2011 on "Pak- German relations- past, present and future," member National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Waqas Akram of Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) said that Pakistan was biggest victim of the on-going war against terrorism and its sacrifices were more than any other country. "We don't deserve a snub and West has to understand that experience of the people of Pakistan with regard to West was not very good," said Ayaz Sadiq.
He said that Pakistan was still dealing with the repercussion of Afghan war and 9/11. He said that leftover of Afghanistan remained unattended by the West and Pakistan was abandoned to deal with the aftermath. Ayaz said that Pakistan has been experiencing suicide bombing after 9/11. He said that a former prime minister of the country became victim of terrorism besides so many other important personalities.
Waqas Akram said that a lot was required to be done to remove this mistrust and misperception. He said that Pak-German friendship groups consisting of Parliamentarian of both the sides was playing an important role in this regard. He said that in May 2010, Pakistani delegation spent five days in Berlin and a German delegation visited Pakistan in October 2010 and had wider interaction in Karachi and Nowshera.
German Member of Parliament, Dr Andereas Schockenhoff said that stable, prosperous and developed Pakistan was in the interest of Germany as well as in the region and international community. He said his country was playing an important role for strengthening relationships between Pakistan and European Union.
He said that EU was the largest trade partner of Pakistan and Germany was the largest trader partner of Pakistan within EU. He said that his country was shocked to learn about assassination of Governor Punjab Salman Taseer. The function organised by Konard Adenauer Stiftung was attended by PML-N's Ayaz Sadiq and Palwasha Bahram, PML-Q's Salim Saifullah Khan and Sheikh Waqas Akram, and former AJK Prime Minister Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry.
