Legislators during Punjab Assembly session here on Thursday showed concerns over inflationary trend in the country and demanded of the government to contain it. Provincial members stated that printing of notes, weak foreign exchange resources were behind these trends.
Legislators pointed that oil prices were raised when they were $96 per barrel internationally and when they remained at $91 presently, these were not reduced. The legislators stated that production of various commodities should be enhanced to curb inflation in the Country. Syed Nazim Hussain Shah, Noor Haider Niazi, Sana ullah Maqsti Khel, Fauzia Behram, Saeed Akbar Nooani, Ijaz Ahmed Khan, Asghar Munda and others participated in the discussion.
In another discussion a number of legislators showed their dissent on keeping attendance register in the assembly premises pointing that legislators were not school children who should sign in a register.
Acting Speaker Rana Mashood in the session stated that an enquiry should be undertaken of those who have fraudulently signed the attendance of the provincial assembly. He said bio-metric system of attendance would be introduced in the House. Sana Ullah Masti Khel, Fauzia Behram, Saeed Akbar Nooani spoke on the issue. Parliamentary Secretary Food speaking in the query period stated that food policy of the provincial government was based upon timely payment of wheat to the farmers.
He said storage capacity of wheat in Punjab was that of 2.17 million metric tonne. Parliamentary Secretary to a query pointed that from April 1 to May 31, 2009, 5724655 metric tones wheat was purchased in the province. He to a question pointed that there were three flour mills namely Rehman Flour Mills; Faisal Flour Mills, Khan Flouir Mills in Faisalabad. The House was later adjourned by the Chair.
