Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Professor Dr Nazir A Mughal has said Japan, China and South Korean research chairs will be established and International conference on South East Asia will also be organised at the university.
He was addressing scholars, academia and students of the university on occasion of memorable get-together organised by the Area Study Center Far East and Southeast Asia University of Sindh in honour of Professor Dr Lutfullah Mangi Professor of International Relations and former Director of Area Study Center on receiving Japan government's highest award "The order of the Rising of Sun" conferred by the Emperor of Japan.
The occasion was attended a large number scholars, professors, faculty members and students of the university. The vice chancellor calling Dr Mangi a son of Sindh and Teacher of University of Sindh said that it is great honour for the university, Province of Sindh as well as the country. The vice chancellor congratulated Dr Mangi on his outstanding achievement and expressed thanks to Japan Government for honouring Sindh university teacher with award the order of the rising sun. He said that this award is first ever in history of the University, which Dr Mangi received. He said that Dr Mangi being scholar and dedicated teacher has raised the image of Pakistan and added that he is one of our eminent scholars in the country.
He said that Dr Mangi rendered services for 30 years as university teacher and his contribution in university will be remembered with golden words. He said that recognition did not come in a day but result of hard work, co-operation of teachers and students who give him support.
The vice chancellor announced that the university would honour its scholar with gold medal in the academic convocation and pointed out that under academic reforms convocation will be held twice in a year. The vice chancellor welcomed idea of Dr Mangi and announced the establishment of Japan, China, Korea and Southeast Asia research chairs and said that approval will be sought from the proper forums after recommendation by Vice Chancellor executive Council.
The vice chancellor announced that an international conference on south-east Asia would be organised and all diplomats would be invited to share their ideas and experiences on educational and economic development. The vice chancellor for the encouragement of faculty and employees announced that every year best faculty for research, best faculty for teaching , best officer and best employee awards from the current year and said that 4 different committees will be constituted to finalise the names on merit.
The vice chancellor also advised the faculty members to contribute in research and said that higher education commission has informed that the University of Sindh is performing well in research and publications. He said that the university is going to sign more academic linkages and pointed out that 6 academic linkages with foreign universities are in the pipeline. Speaking on the occasion Dr Mangi thanked Japan Government for awarding him highest award of Japan and said that it was only because of the University of Sindh. Dr Mangi said that award, which he received is not his property but it belongs to faculty, students and the university.
He said that when Japan Government informed him he was deeply humbled by decision of Government of Japan and he said thanks to the University of Sindh. He also expressed thanks to his colleagues and University administration for co-operation with him during his service. Dr Mangi advised the university to establish Japan, China, Korea and South Asia study chairs. The Dean Faculty of Social Sciences and Director of Area Study Center Dr Parveen Shah said that Dr Mangi upgraded teaching and research in the department and also in Area Study Centre.
