Federal Minister for Education Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali has said that globalisation and technological advance has created a new global economy and promotion of science and technology is crucial to compete at the international level.
While addressing at the concluding ceremony of Intel National Science Fair arranged by Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in collaboration with education ministry here on Tuesday, he stressed the need to improve the quality of technical as well as formal education in the country. He said that the present government is taking all possible steps in achieving educational goals at all the levels.
Intel Pakistan, Country Manager, Naveed Siraj said that it was encouraging to note that each year more schools and students were participating in the Intel Science Fairs, with increased drive, to excel in the areas of science and research, even from the scattered and rural population of the country.
The Fair showcased more than 80 science projects submitted by young scientists from across the country who qualified for a place in the National Science Fair after rigorous competition at district and provincial levels. The grand winners in individual category included the names of Fatima Sohail and Habibullah Mohammad.
Habibullah Mohammad of Park-Turk International School and Colleges Lahore and Fatima Sohail of Defence Authority Model High School Karachi jointly won the grand winner award. Habibullah won the award on designing the Project titled "Organic Battery" and Fatima for "generation of electricity with the help of vertical air through a modified very economical windmill".
On the other hand students of FG College for Women, G-10/4 Islamabad took the top honour in the team category. The students including the names of Ambreen Bibi and Mehwish Ghafoor had designed the project "Degradation of Environmental pollutants with nano-composites". The event was widely attended by youth from all across the country.
