Government College University Fine Arts Department on Thursday held a painting exhibition of a group of young talented painters; Marina Aftab, Kiran Riaz, Nazish Altaf and Maria Ahsan. As many as 31 art pieces were put on display at the two-week exhibition opened by College of Art and Design Principal Rahat Naveed Masud at the university's Minhas Art Gallery.
The artists used oil paint, acrylic, etching and texture as a medium to express their emotions and thoughts. The work of Marina Aftab on Sufism remained the centre of attraction at the exhibition. Talking about her work, Marina said Sufism has always been a mystery for her.
"I always found myself deeply involved when it comes to mystical dimension of Islam. To understand and illustrate Peer-e-Kamil Prophet (PBUH) is my one of the major steps towards it," she added. Marina said that she has created special mood in each illustration, which is blend of writing and her thoughts. Talking about her texture work, Kiran Riaz said that nature always created sensation in her and she tries to recreate that sensation into textures. As an artist, Kiran said, she is obsessed with her paintings, which actually cause her imagination to prevail across the smooth texture of the "Vasil". I talk through colours and textures. My imagination helps me to blend various textures into harmonised one," she added.
Nazish Altaf said that she in her paintings symbolises family as nest and different materials used to built nest represents the individual life circle of the family members; despite of this individuality, the bond of relationship find its way to reach their roots, so as to retain identity.
