The newly appointed Punjab Governor Latif Khosa, accompanied by Punjab PPP President and two PPP provincial ministers, met PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif at the latter's Raiwind residence on Tuesday in a bid to promote politics of conciliation for the ultimate benefit of the people of Punjab and removing differences among the two coalition partners ie PPP and PML-N in the province.
The Governor was accompanied by Imtiaz Safder Warriach, Punjab Minister Raja Riaz and Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira. Soon after reaching Raiwind, they visited the grave of Mian Mohammad Sharif. The PPP delegation offered "fateha" for the eternal peace of departed soul of Mian Sharif.
Later, Punjab Governor along with other PPP leaders held a meeting with Nawaz Sharif in which the two sides expressed resolve to work for the betterment of the people. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Punjab Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman were also present on the occasion.
Sources told Business Recorder that during the meeting, various matters including country's political and economic situation and affairs of the Punjab coalition setup came under discussion. The PPP delegation conveyed to the PML-N leadership about PPP leadership's point of view on a better working relationship in Punjab.
Both sides agreed to wage joint efforts for bringing prosperity for the people of the province through joint efforts and to continue such contacts in future, sources said. After assuming charge of Punjab Governor, this was the first formal meeting of Latif Khosa with Nawaz Sharif and it was a step towards improving relations between the two coalition partners in Punjab.
During the meeting, the PML-N chief said that many challenges faced by the country could be tackled through the spirit of conciliation, sincerity and "forging unity in our ranks". He said his agenda is to bring prosperity for the people and hoped that all political parties would play their role for achieving this agenda.
Nawaz welcomed the goodwill gesture of Khosa and expressed optimism that he would play his role to promote better political atmosphere for the prosperity of people of the province. He said that he would be happy if thePunjab Governor played his role in resolving the problems of the people of the province by joining hands with Punjab government.
The Governor said the policy of conciliation would continue "since it is in the interest of the people". He said he would develop cordial relations with the provincial government and would hold meetings with leaders of other political parties.
Latif Khosa said he was desirous of establishing better relations with PML-N by promoting politics of conciliation for the benefit of people of the province. He appreciated efforts of PML-N leader for strengthening democracy in the country and said the PPP with the co-operation of PML-N would continue to play its role for creating better democratic atmosphere. He said that there would be no confrontation between Governor House and Chief Minister House.
