The issue of targetted killings in Karachi would be discussed in the forthcoming 28th session of the National Assembly, which would be held on January 24, 2011. Well-placed sources in the National Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday told Business Recorder that the adjournment motions submitted by the parliamentary parties about targetted killings in Karachi would be discussed in the coming session.
They said that the issues pertaining to economy, law and order situation and borrowing of Rs 1.5 billion daily from State Bank of Pakistan by the government would be discussed. They said that 10-point agenda of PML-N given to the government, price hike and the issue of deweaponisation of the country would also be discussed.
The sources said the National Assembly is likely to pass "The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2010 in the session. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Leader Ahsan Iqbal said his party already had demanded of the government to call session of the National Assembly on specific one-point agenda of targetted killing of innocent people in Karachi.
"We will raise the issue of targetted killings in Karachi forcefully. Innocent people are being killed but the culprits are not being arrested. We want peace and stability in Karachi which is country's economic hub," he said.
Parliamentary leader of Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat said his party has submitted 20 adjournment motions on various issues including price hike, corruption, targetted killings and others but these motions are not being taken up. He said his party is playing a real role of opposition and it raises the public issues in the Parliament. Answering a question, he said that law exists against illegal weapons but there is need of implementation on it in letter and spirit.
