Pakistan government gives priority to education therefore British government is considering giving Pakistan some necessary assistance keeping in view the importance of education sector. This was the gist of mutual discussion held among Moazzam Malik, Director Western Asia & Stabilisation Division, Department for International Development (DFID), UK and mothers and students enrolled under Education Voucher Scheme (EVS) at EVS office of Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) here on Wednesday.
The five member British delegation comprised of Mark Lowcock, Director General Country Programmes, DFID-UK, George Tarkington Country Head DFID-Pakistan, Dr Javed Malik Education Advisor DFID-Pakistan and Aalia Usman Programme Officer DFID- Pakistan. PEF management besides Director (EVS) Maliha Batool, EVS-Project Officers and others were also present.
Malik said that the delegation is on an appraisal mission of EVS scheme for its possible extension. "We want that it may be extended so that children have access to education and they could improve their standard of living," he added. Member PEF Board of Directors, Shaista Pervez Malik informed the meeting that a plan has been chalked out to impart technical training to the students. The purpose is to improve and secure the economic future of students, she maintained.
Later, the DFID delegation visited two PEF partner schools situated in the near vicinity besides visiting Metropolitan Model Girls High School Fateh Garh, Lahore where they inquired about the quality of education and provision of educational facilities from the teachers.
