The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday deputed Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Asma Jahangir as amicus curiae in the case regarding recovery of two miner girls of model Sofia Mirza. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry with Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday was hearing the case.
During the course of proceedings, SCBA president Asma Jahangir appeared before the court. "We are listening that you have decided not to appear in the bench No1 of the apex court," CJP asked Asma. Asma replied that she would not contest private cases during her presidentship, although she would appear in human rights cases. She said that after taking over as SCBA president, many people had approached her for contesting their cases but she refused to appear before bench No1 of the apex court in private cases by taking fees.
Justice Ramday urged her to appear in routine cases as well. "By Grace of God, cases are deciding on merit," CJP remarked. The court also appreciated the efforts of Asma Jahanhgir for the rights of people. Meanwhile, the court was informed that foreign office's team had departed to Dubai for taking the custody of two minor girls of renowned Model Sofia Mirza. A Foreign Office official told the court that the team would take up the matter with Dubai government on January 24.

The court directed Sofia Mirza to contact with SCBA president continuously and adjourned the case till February 1.
