Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is planning to reintroduce 'Reward Scheme' to boost the performance of tax officials, albeit the same remained unsuccessful and created financial constraints for revenue body in past, Business Recorder learnt on Monday.
According to sources, the reintroduction of this Reward Scheme, which was aimed at enhancing the performance of the tax officials, would create more rooms for corruption as it was exploited in past for minting money.
They said the board, on the recommendation of World Bank Technical Assistance Mission, has decided to implement performance-based bonus scheme in 2011-12 and this scheme would be based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
For the purpose, the Chief Commissioners and Member Domestic Operation South have been directed to bring the KPIs in the knowledge of workforce and ensure its proper monitoring to make transparency in the said process, the sources said.
Therefore, the chief commissioners are presently busy in circulating the KPIs for the information of the workforce besides communicating its field formation that this reward mechanism is based on the KPIs, they said.
Moreover, they said the Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) and Large Taxpayers Units (LTUs) have also been instructed to organise seminar to publicise the KPIs system with the field formations and get feedback on it.
