Lahore High Court here Thursday directed Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) to appear before the court on February 8 or depute a deputy attorney general to argue in petitions seeking extradition and filing of high treason case against former President, Pervez Musharraf.
On Thursday, Deputy Attorney General, Tanveer Hashimi appeared before the court and sought more time to obtain instructions in the matter. The petitioner's counsel, however, opposed the request and accused him of playing delaying tactics. The court, also, found it regrettable.
The court was hearing the petitions filed by Ilamuddin Ghazi Advocate and Aziz Ahmad Awan. The petitioner alleged that former army chief had dissolved an elected parliament without any cogent reason, prevented judges of the supreme court and high courts from performing their judicial duties and detained Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and his children.
He also said that during Musharraf's rule, lawyers were severely beaten and false criminal cases were registered against them. The former army chief also killed thousands of Hafiz-e-Quran girls and boys during the Jamia Hafsa operation in Islamabad. He also compelled Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan to own charges of illegally selling nuclear technology. The petitioner also alleged that Musharraf had ordered killing of Akbar Bugti and also made plans to kill Benazir Bhutto. He requested the court to direct federal government to lodge a case against the former president under Article 6 of the constitution.
