District Co-ordination Officer, Naseem Sadiq has said that a number of uplift projects are being implemented to make the city pollution-free under 'Green Faisalabad Project'. Presiding over a joint meeting of government officers and NGO "Develop our valuable earth (DOV)" in which beautification plan for Faisalabad was reviewed, he said that a comprehensive strategy is being followed for the purpose.
He added that future requirements and needs are being kept in view to make uplift projects of renovation of green belts, public parks and tree plantation long-lasting. Sadiq appreciated the idea conceived by the NGO for promotion of kitchen gardens alongside roads, adding that district administration has already been working on these projects. He urged the NGO to associate itself with such planning.
He informed that various projects are being implemented with active participation of local communities and rupees 160 million have been spent with the co-operation of local traders, industrialists and donor agencies on these. Elaborating, he said that canal parks at Samundri Road have been rehabilitated with the financial co-operation of local industrialists while plan is being formulated for the development and rehabilitation of Gatwala parks and Kaleem Shaheed parks, GM Abad. Eight important city roads linked with bypass road have been taken up for widening and renovation by developing greenbelts and removing encroachments. Also, uniform colour scheme would be used for painting electric polls and shop shutters, he maintained.
The DCO further said that Surwala Rajbah, passing through mid of the city is being cemented, adding that bishop of Faisalabad has offered tree plantation by the students of Christian missionary schools on both sides of the Rajbah.
He reiterated that district administration provided all possible relief to the people during the last six months and level of confidence of citizens on the administration has been elevated. Now people are very much committed to transform the city into a clean and beautiful one, he added.
Sadiq vowed that spring tree plantation campaign would be started with new spirit and zeal by mobilising the community and the idea would be floated for planting saplings and bringing back old environment of big trees in the city. These trees were removed for widening city roads in the past, he added. He offered the area from Novelty Pul to Pul Korian alongside canal rakh branch to the NGO for developing it as kitchen garden.
Earlier, chief executive officer DOV, Abdul Rasheed Chaudhry briefed about the activities of the NGO and said that community organisation, poverty reduction, health and environment, education and training are their main objectives. He requested that land from Gatwala to Kashmir Pul on canal rakh branch be set for developing kitchen gardening which would help in production of vegetable, curbing environment pollution and generating employment. The meeting was also attended by EDO Agriculture, Ishtiaq Hassan, MD PHA, Misbahul Hassan Dar, SAO Khalid Manzur, DO roads Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain, and TMO Sardar Naseer.
