Blasphemy law: 'nobody paying attention to logical arguments'

Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary, Fouzia Wahab said on Monday that no body is ready to listen to the logical facts regarding blasphemy law. She said that media is dominated by 'journalists having right wing ideas'.
She was talking to the media after the launching ceremony of regular transmission of radio service FM 97.6 at Kinnaird College for Women. Principal KC, Rukhsana David, Former Principal Mira Phailbus and Head Department of Media Studies, Shazia Saeed were also present on the occasion.
Ms Wahab said that the case of killing of three Pakistanis by an American Raymond Davis is under investigation. She said that the handing over of Davis will be decided by foreign office. She also said that there is no tax evader in the parliament. If somebody is involved in tax evading and giving wrong statements about his assets, courts are there to decide.
She said that her party has no stance regarding creation of new provinces, yet policy guidelines in this regard would be adopted after a party meeting with the PPP Co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari. She said Pakistan is facing manifold challenges adding that Pakistani media is dominated by right wing journalists who are 'responsible of increasing extremism in the country'. She said that journalists with these extremist ideas are not ready to accept any argument based on logic on the blasphemy law.
PPP Central Information Secretary said that government wishes to enhance the education budget as it is subjected to more tax revenues collected from the people. She added that the dream of an increased budget for education could not be realised unless people fulfil their responsibility and pay more taxes.
Addressing the students, Fauzia Wahab congratulated media studies department head Shazia Saeed and radio team. She said she is honoured to be part of the ceremony, adding KC students have a bright future. The college has produced big names like Asma Jahangir, Bhapsi Sidhwa, Attiya Inayat Ullah and Moneeza Hashmi. Talking about the media, she said that Radio Kinnarid will give us the light of knowledge, wisdom and spread the message of harmony and peace. She also said that the media will produce future anchors, editors and media analysts. She said that the youth could play a pivotal role in ensuring bright future of the country.
In her address, Former Principal, Mira Philbous said that Kinnaird is producing educated women who can give information and confidence to the less privileged women in our society. Earlier, Ms Wahab and her delegation were taken to the radio station where she inaugurated the radio station by cutting the ribbon. After the inauguration, she also recorded a radio message for the college.
