Minister for Population Welfare Punjab, Neelam Jabbar Chaudhry said the government has established 104 reproductive health services-A centres and these would be increased to 130 to provide better reproductive health services. While talking to a delegation on Monday, she said, at present 53 non-development reproductive health services-B centres are registered with the population welfare department and during next plan the number of RHS-B centres would also be increased.
She further said that the government had initiated reproductive health projects with the assistance of Asian Development Bank (ADP) and was being implemented in various districts of the province. "This project aims at improving reproductive health services by enhancing skills of doctors as well as paramedics," she said.
The minister said that through upgradation of operation theatres, recovery rooms, labour rooms, public health schools and midwifery schools, better health services would be delivered. The necessary equipment relating to gynae/obstetric facilities have also been provided in public sector hospitals at district level, she added.
She further said that as many as 1500 family welfare centres (FWCs) have been established in the province for the provision of better family planning services, out of 1500 FWCs, 528 are located in urban areas and 972 are in rural areas. The number of FWCs would be increased to 2000, whereas, the Population Welfare Department Punjab would also increase the number of mobile service units from 117 to 134 in the province, she added.
