Using its efficient Complaints Redressal System, National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has effectively and transparently resolved 151,220 complaints from flood-affected population who had been facing different problems in getting Watan cards, said Nadra Deputy Chairman Tariq Malik.
The system's objective is to address the complaints from genuine beneficiaries, which were unable to get registered for Watan cards. "We believe that we have successfully made an effective and adequate mechanism that yields transparent delivery of relief and rehabilitation aid to the affected population," said Tariq Malik.
Nadra has so far issued around 1.48 million Watan cards successfully disbursing approximately Rs 27.5 billion to flood-affected families of different parts of the country. "National Disaster Management Authority estimated that around 1.6 million families were affected by flood, and we have given Watan cards to 1.48 million, which means we have done 92.5 percent of our job. We are focused on resolving individual complaints with the help of provincial and local authorities," said Tariq.
He said that throughout the process Nadra ensured strong checks in the software so that only deserving families belonging to provincially notified calamity-hit areas could obtain Watan cards. He said that Nadra issued 540,209 Watan cards in Sindh to disburse Rs 9.68 billion. In Punjab, the numbers of Watan cards issued were 608,304 with a disbursed amount of Rs 11.87 billion.
In Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, the number of Watan cards issued stood at 95,568 and 198,108 with disbursed amount of 1.75 billion and 3.79 billion respectively. In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, 3,222 and 9,671 cards were issued disbursing 59.4 million and 175 million rupees respectively.
Tariq Malik said that using its multi-biometric system, Nadra has ensured transparency and thwarted several attempts of misuse of the Watan card from miscreants. "About 1.3 million ineligible people have visited Nadra Registration Centres for obtaining Watan cards but due to vigilant Nadra system they were not able to do so," he added. "Had our system not rejected 1.3 million ineligible applicants, the government of Pakistan would have lost 26 billion rupees," said Malik. That was a perfect example of good governance and efficient service delivery recognised by international donors and agencies like World Bank, he added.-PR
