Rehman announces setting up of co-ordination committee: steps to eliminate money extortion, target killing
Federal Minister for Interior, A Rehaman Malik has announced a co-ordination committee to work for eliminating extortion of money and target killing from the city. Speaking at a meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Monday.
He said that the taskforce will have representatives of KCCI, all big political parties, police, FIA, ISI, rangers and other law enforcing agencies to restore peace in the city. He said that the taskforce will take action on all complaints it receives and work for improvement of law and order situations. He said that the government will move in collaboration with all the three major parties including PPP, MQM and ANP to restore peace in the city.
Rehaman Malik advised Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to verify all the mobiles phone SIMs in next two months and block illegal SIMs. He assured business community that the government is taking appropriate measures to block the use of stolen mobile phones and register FIR against user. He said that Pakistan is the biggest sufferer of Afghan war. This war has spread drug mafia and Kalashnikov culture in Pakistan. Deputy Convener of MQM, Dr Muhammad Farooq Sattar pointed out that the resident and business community of NA 249 and NA 250 are the worst affected regarding law and order situation and extortion of money cases.
He said that MQM has a list of criminals and added that crime can be eliminated from the city in just three months if PPP, ANP and MQM jointly work on 12 point strategy of MQM. He said that Sadar Town, which contributes huge revenue towards government exchequers, has become a den of criminals.
He said that the interior minister has promised for taking appropriate measures to overcome criminals on permanent basis. Chairman Businessmen Group (BMG) and former President KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli highlighted the importance of this gathering which was called today to chalk out mechanism to address the law and order situation. He said the peace of the city would be restored if the 3 major parties of the city bridge their differences and join hands for peace and tranquility.
Advisor to CM on Investments, Zubair Motiwala said political stability has direct link with economic stability. The acts of extortions are on the rise and whether it is a businessman or a common man no one is safe from the prevailing worst law and order situation. A comprehensive mechanism is needed to address the situation otherwise, we cannot survive. President KCCI, Muhammad Saeed Shafiq recalled Rehman Malik of the promises he had made in the Governor House meeting in the past but none of them fulfilled and we are still waiting for the same.
