A full bench of the Lahore High Court here Tuesday adjourned to February 3 the hearing of the petitions challenging holding of dual office by President Asif Ali Zardari when arguments of the petitioner's counsel were in progress.
The petitioners include Pakistan Lawyers Forum (PLF), Engineer Ghulam Jillani and a bar member Asif Mehmood Khan who seek disqualification of President Asif Ali Zardari for holding a political office of co-chairperson of PPP.
The petitioners contended that President being head of the state is constitutionally required to maintain an impartial, neutral and non-partisan posture to deal with any situation in the best national interest of the nation. They contended that Asif Ali Zardari is head of a political party, and adopts on occasions, the absolute posture of the party leader and serves party interests, which is contrary to the character of his constitutional office. They prayed to the court to declare Zardari disqualified to hold the dual office.
