The lawmakers on Tuesday urged the government to replace Minister for Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Babar Awan being so busy in others affairs that he was 'absent' from the National Assembly on the fourth consecutive count on private members' day.
We are well aware of the fact that the law minister was very busy and had several assignments to accomplish. If he cannot spare time to attend the house, then find someone else who could spare time, said Atyia Inyat Ullah of PML-Q. She pointed out that it was fourth time that law minister was absent on private members' day. She said that three important bills regarding women rights had been deferred due to absence of the law minister.
Taking notice of the matter, Deputy Speaker, Faisal Karim Kundi asked Khursheed Shah to ensure presence of the law minister for the next time. During the sessions of National Assembly, Tuesday has been marked as private members' day so that members irrespective of their party position could contribute in lawmaking in their personal capacity.
Earlier, Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza suspended the proceedings till completion of required quorum after it was pointed out by Justice Fakhar-un-Nisa Khokher (Retd). To complete the quorum, 86 members out of a House of 342 have to be present inside the National Assembly hall.
Meanwhile, speaking on point of order Akhunzada Chattan from the Federally Administrated Tribal Area (FATA) urged the government for reforms in the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR) act to end deprivation of the people. He said that political parties act should also be extended to FATA which could usher in a new area of progress and prosperity in the area.
Jameela Gillani said that the government is receiving huge funds in the name of FATA but it is the most neglected area. She highlighted the fact that the government had abandoned Fata communal schools project. The project included 956 schools in which about 78,000 students were enrolled.
