The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), with active support from large companies, will protect small and medium companies to promote the atmosphere of competition against monopoly of a single company, which is also harmful for the masses, said CCP Chairperson Rahat Kaunain Hassan here on Tuesday.
Almost 110 countries are practising the same law in their respective countries and they have succeeded to end cartelisation, she said while talking to the President of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Ali Raza Saeed Shah, during her visit to the RCCI. Abdul Ghaffar, Member, Cartels and Trade Abuses, CCP, Senior Vice President of RCCI Muhammad Ateeq, Vice President Dr Shimail Daud, former presidents, members of the executive committee and other businessmen of the region were also present on the occasion.
Rahat said that the main objective of Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) is to check cartelisation, anti-competitive practices, and collusive behaviour, and facilitate the business community for the betterment of common people. "With elimination of cartelisation ,we will help common people, and discourage exploitation", she added.
The CCP Chairperson said that "CCP is just a law-enforcement agency whose duty is to enforce the law made by the government regarding competitiveness." RCCI President Ali Raza said that the business community respects the government's laws and always welcomes the laws made by the government. He said that CCP is working for the last 4 years, but most of the business community is not aware of the existence of such department.
He stressed that CCP must start awareness programmes and seminars, and organise workshops to inform the business community regarding CCP's laws. He said that owing to poor publicity, the community was not fully aware of the laws, and unintentionally become sa cause for breaking the laws which are not familiar to them, despite giving them warning CCP made heavy fines to them. He demanded of the chairperson that training programmes and seminars must be organised without delay to create awareness among the businessmen regarding the said laws. "RCCI platform can be use for this purpose", he added.
