Benazir Bhutto assassination case: two former senior police officers again sent to jail on judicial remand

Two ex-senior police officers of Punjab Police detained in Benazir Bhutto assassination case were again sent to Central Jail Adiala on judicial remand on Tuesday.
The anti-terrorist court (ATC) No III, judge Rana Nisar Ahmed, resumed hearing of the high profile assassination case of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and after hearing the argument of the prosecution counsel once again sent former CPO Rawalpindi Saud Aziz, former SP Rawal Town Khurram Shahzad to Central Jail Adiala on judicial remand.
The two detained police officers were brought in the ATC for hearing under a heavy security blanket, as entire area was cordoned off by heavy contingents of police and police commandos. Media and other people were not allowed to enter the area.
The investigation team of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented the accused police officers before the court. The special prosecutor of the FIA Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ahmed presented a written statement of Assistant Director FIA Asghar Jatoi stating that the two detained police officers are aware of the investigation tactics, which is causing problems for investigators. He also informed the court that Saud Aziz has not given so far his mobile phone to investigators. The judge ended the physical remand of the two detained police officers and sent them to jail.
Waheed Anjum Advocate appeared in the ATC on behalf of the two accused police officers. The Judge of the ATC had granted further 10-day physical remand of the two detained police officers in previous hearing on January 22, to the FIA in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, after instructions from the High Court.
The FIA has got 24-day physical remand of the two accused police officers in this high profile murder. The ATC Judge had denied the extension in physical remand after completion of 14 days, but the FIA moved an application in Lahore High Court seeking permission for custody of the two accused police officers for further investigation. The LHC had instructed the ATC to extend their physical remand.
