Chief Minister of Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif will inaugurate Danish School in Hasilpur (District Bahawlpur) on Thursday (today) being set up with a budget of millions of rupees, which could have been utilised for upgradation of thousands of existing government schools being run under deplorable conditions with no infrastructure or teachers.
This was stated by Central Information Secretary Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Umar Cheema on Wednesday. Talking to Business Recorder he said that 'Danish School System' is mockery on the face of educational system. Tax payer's money is being wasted for gaining cheap popularity.
Chief Minister Punjab is determined to spend millions of rupees on the project, which will benefit only a few hundred students while 40 thousand government schools, which are in deplorable condition with no classrooms or teachers, said the opponent of the idea. Instead of improving the present deteriorating governmental structure of the province, it is spending billions of rupees in southern Punjab for politically motivated agenda, he said.
Shahbaz Sharif should tell the nation the percentage of students, which will benefit from these schools. What is the fault of the rest of 99.9% students for whom education is being made a joke. Who should they complain for this injustice? Creating class difference in government educational institution is against the constitution of Pakistan, whereas it is obligatory for the present government to provide equal educational opportunities to all.
He also said that Punjab chief minister's Danish school project will be a complete failure like Sasti Roti project which they started for gaining cheap popularity and Rs 20 billion was wasted in the project. He said that they had given the proposal to the Punjab government that the project should be run by philanthropists but the chief minister was not ready to listen to anybody. In the same way the emotional chief minister Punjab was not ready to listen to the proposal of any body regarding the Danish school project.
He further said that action of Punjab government is even against the recommendations of 2009 educational policy of the government, which calls for eliminating the class difference in the prevailing educational system. As education is now a provincial subject, it is the responsibility of the Punjab government to act in accordance with the constitution and remove the educational difference between government and private sector. On the contrary it has even started creating class difference in government schools. Creating elite class in government schools will further polarise the society on socio economic line, he said.
Spending 5 billion rupees in this era of extreme financial crunch is an extravaganza and only political point scoring; instead this money should be utilised on improving the existing government educational system, which is providing maximum education in Pakistan, he added.
President Punjab University Academic staff Association, Dr Mahar Saeed Akhtar while talking to Business Recorder said that such type of schools should be opened in all districts but government should focus on improving the administration and functioning of already existing schools.
