District Administration, Peshawar on Wednesday seized 200 illegally Afghanistan bound cattle in a raid in Hayatabad Principal Chowk. The raid was conducted on the complaints of general public and reports in print and electronic media regarding illegal transportation of cattle to Afghanistan without legal documents causing shortage of cattle in district Peshawar.
The reports of cattle shortage were prompting butchers for increase in the prices of meats. To overcome the situation, Assistant Co-ordination Officer (ACO) Peshawar, Syed Zafar Ali Shah conducted raid in Hayatabad Principal Chowk and got hold of three trollers transporting approximately 200 cattle to Afghanistan.
According to the officials of the district administration there were no documents such as permit letter etc which could authorise these trucks to transport the cattle to Afghanistan so as the vehicles along with cattle were impounded and handed over to the police station Hayatabad with the direction to District Officer Livestock to submit detailed report to the police station on the basis of which they will lodge an FIR under relevant section of law.
The officials said that despite requests made to the Livestock Department to intimate the number of cattle already transported to Afghanistan through permit as the same quota is fixed by the federal government is 25000 per annum and there is possibility that the quota fixed for the transportation of quantity to Afghanistan, might have expired.
The district administration has asked the livestock department for intimating the latest position of the numbers cattle transported to Afghanistan required for taking action against extra quota of cattle which is being transported to Afghanistan.
Another thing which was also noticed by the district government during raids on the slaughter houses that slaughtered animals pieces are also transported to Afghanistan causing shortage in Peshawar, which was also agitated by the general public so the Livestock Department may clear the policy in respect of such transportation.
