The Meteorological Department here on Thursday predicted scattered rains with snowfall over the hills during 3rd to 8th February in different parts of the country. It said a westerly wave of moderate intensity, presently giving rains over Iran/Afghanistan, is heading towards Pakistan, and very likely to enter Balochistan on Thursday.
Under the influence of this weather system, a good winter rain and snowfall is predicted in different parts of the country during coming 5 to 6 days. The detailed weather forecast is as under: Islamabad-Mostly cloudy/ chances of rain of light to moderate intensity on Thursday night/Friday/Saturday. Scattered showers also expected on Monday/Tuesday.
Punjab-scattered rain in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Sargodha divisions, and isolated rain in Lahore, Faisalabad divisions from Thursday night to Saturday. Rain also expected at a number of places in Punjab on Monday/Tuesday. Murree hills may receive good snowfall (2 - 3 feet) during the period by this weather system. Sindh-Mainly dry weather will continue in most parts of Sindh, however isolated showers/thunder may occur over upper parts of Sindh (Sukkar, Jaccobabad and Larkana divisions) on Friday and Monday/Tuesday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK)-Isolated rain with snowfall over the hills on Thursday evening/night over upper parts of KPK (Peshawar, Kohat, Malakand, Hazara divisions). Rain (with snowfall over the hills) expected at a number of places of KPK from Friday to Monday.
Balochistan-Scattered rain/thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills expected over north-eastern parts of Balochistan (Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Bolan, Sibbi, Loralai, Kohlu, Dera-Bugti, Nasirabad and Barkhan Districts) on Thursday/Friday and Sunday/ Monday.
Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir-Rain with snowfall over the hills of light intensity on Thursday, Snowfall of moderate intensity at times heavy expected at a number of places in the region from Friday to Tuesday. The air-route for the region may remain disturb during the period due to bad-weather.
