'Kashmir Solidarity Day' was observed on Saturday with a renewed pledge to continue support to the just cause of the Kashmiris facing Indian oppression. One-minute silence was observed throughout the country with the sounding of sirens at 10 am which brought the traffic to a halt.
Rallies and processions were taken out at all provincial, district and tehsil levels across the country. The participants of rallies held placards inscribed with slogans demanding India to quit the held valley and allow people their right of self-determination.
Political, social and religious organisations took out processions and held seminars and meetings to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir. Speakers in these functions urged the United Nations to exert its pressure on India to allow Kashmiris to exercise their right of self-determination in held Kashmir. They also called upon Muslim Ummah to forge unity in their ranks and extend full support to Kasmiris in their just struggle.
Hundreds of people formed a human chain at the Kohala bridge. The day had been declared public holiday to facilitate people's active participation in rallies, walks, seminars and other functions. Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) had arranged a seminar at Alhamra Hall Lahore to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir.
PML-N leader Saad Rafique said: "Peace cannot be attained in the region without resolving the Kashmir dispute." He asked the global community to give up its double standard and play its role in settling the Kashmir dispute. He said the PML-N is closely watching the country's political and economic situation and it will move ahead as per aspirations of people after end of 45 days given to the government for the implementation of its 10-point agenda.
Other speakers highlighted the significance of the day and sufferings being faced by the Kashmiris for achieving their inalienable right of self-determination in the occupied valley. Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan also took out a rally from Data Darbar to Punjab Assembly Chowk to express solidarity with people of held Kashmir and Palestine. Khaksar Tehrik Pakistan also held a rally on " Kashmir and Palestine Solidarity Day."
