National Assembly's Standing Committee on Privatisation asked the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to intervene and direct Ministry of Finance to release the legal dues of the employees of Pak PVC Ltd, privatised in 1992. The meeting of the committee was held with Khawaja Sohail Mansoor in the chair.
Dr Abdul Wahid Somroo raised the matter regarding payments of Rs 21.1 million of former employees of PVC in the meeting. Responding to the matter, Minister PC Senator Waqar Ahmed Khan informed the committee that the issue of PVC is under consideration with Sindh High Court hence his ministry is unable to offer any solutions in this regard. However, committee directed the PC to expedite the matter with court.
In a briefing, an official of PC said that commission was out of cash as a result of no transaction has been taken place in the last few years. When commission approached the ministry of finance for cash for legal dues for former employees of PVC, it declined the request on the ground the payment of legal allowance is the responsibility of the buyer not sellers.
The official further briefed the committee that government has released Rs 26 million VHS of the former employees of PVC but buyer did not honour its commitment. As a consequence, CBA took the matter in court. Minister also briefed the committee regarding the equity linked instruments. During the meeting the matter of OGDCL was also discussed.
