Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Nawaz Sharif has summoned party's consultative meeting on Tuesday on the 10-point agenda, which is yet to be implemented, as the party's 45-day deadline is due to expire on 20th of this month.
Talking to Business Recorder on Monday, PML-N's spokesman Siddiqul Farooq said that the party's chief Nawaz Sharif has summoned the meeting of party top leadership here in Punjab House to examine the progress so far made in the talks of the PML-N's committee with the government committee headed by Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh to implement the reforms agenda in letter and spirit. The meeting would be briefed by Senator Ishaq Dar, which would also be attended by top party leadership including Mehtab Abbasi, Senator Pervez Rashid and Abdul Qadir Baloch.
The party is expected to come up with move to exert more pressure on the government for ensuring the implementation of the reforms agenda within the given timeframe, which is due to expire on February 20. Farooq said that the meeting would discuss the progress on part of the government on the reform agenda, besides current political situation of the country. However, he added that any important decision likewise the PML-N's threat to say goodbye to the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) from Punjab would be taken after February 20, the deadline given by the opposition party aimed at ensuring implementation of the agenda in its true sense.
In the previous meeting, chaired by Nawaz Sharif on January 26, the PML-N rejected any extension in the given 45-day timeframe, as the party's chief termed any further extension against the country's best interests and also expressed dissatisfaction over the steps on part of the government.
A party's source close to the talks with the government's committee on the ten-point agenda said that the PML-N chief was keen to see implementation of the reforms agenda before February 20 and has also directed the party's committee tasked to hold talks with the government, to speedily work on the execution of the agenda by restricting all their other engagements.
