A full bench of the Lahore High Court here Monday adjourned for a day proceedings of the petitions challenging holding of dual office by President Asif Ali Zardari when petitioner counsel AK Dogar was still submitting his arguments.
The petitions were filed by Pakistan Lawyers Forum (PLF), Engineer Ghulam Jillani and Advocate Asif Mehmood Khan seeking disqualification of President Asif Ali Zardari for simultaneously holding a political office of PPP co-chairperson.
The petitioner contended that the president being head of the state is constitutionally required to maintain an impartial, neutral and non-partisan posture to deal with any situation in the best national interest. He contended that Asif Ali Zardari is head of a political party, and adopts on occasions, the absolute posture of the party leader and serves party's interests, which is contrary to the character of his Constitutional office. He prays the court to declare Zardari disqualified for holding the dual office.
