Punjab Agriculture Minister, Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh has directed all executive district officers (EDOs) of agriculture to ensure availability of urea fertiliser in the market at government's fixed rates. He warned that action would be taken against the officers concerned in case of profiteering.
He issued these directives while chairing a meeting of EDOs of cotton zone, here on Monday. Aulakh termed increase in urea fertiliser prices is unjustifiable, adding that the provincial government had requested the federal government to ensure withdrawal of this fresh hike in prices. He mentioned that government has taken strict notice of sale of urea fertilisers on higher rates in some areas of the province. He added that administration of all districts has been issued directives to keep a vigilant eye on the situation and make a crackdown on profiteers. The minister held EDOs and district officers (agriculture) responsible to control overcharging of fertilisers and black marketing.
