A petition has been filed before the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging removal of four additional judges of LHC by parliamentary committee. A local lawyer Noshab A Khan in his petition contended that Judicial Commission headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had approved nomination of four judges but parliamentary commission rejected it, relying on intelligence reports.
He contended that reports of intelligence agencies have nothing to do with eligibility or credibility of judges. The committee had declined to give extension to Justice Mazhar Ali, Justice Yawar Ali, Justice Mamoon Rashid and Justice Farrukh Irfan. He said the committee could reject the opinion of JC without sound reasoning. He therefore prayed to the court to set aside removal order of four judges.
