President of the ruling collation partner-Awami National Party (ANP), Asfandyar Wali Khan on Monday held a "third-element" responsible behind the continued Karachi unrest. Speaking at a press conference at Mardan House along with Sindh ANP leadership, he also ruled out the deployment of army in Karachi on an immediate basis to tackle the terrorism of targeted killings.
"Army is the last option to restore peace and at present there is no need to call in army," he said, adding there should be a political solution to end the Karachi disorder. On the occasion, President ANP Sindh, Shahi Syed, Sindh Labour Minister, Amir Nawab Khan, Member Sindh Assembly, Amanullah Khan Mehsood, Rana Gul Afridi and other were present.
Expressing concerns, Asfandyar Wali said Karachi could no longer undergo the continued chaos, and the city needed a durable peace utmost. "Peace in Karachi is the utmost need of the hour, as the city suffered from the continued restless," chief of ANP added.
He blamed the invisible third force continued to create law and order situation in Karachi, saying, "those who want to destabilise Pakistan are involved in Karachi unrest". He pointed out that every Pukhutn was not part of ANP and nor every Urdu speaking belonged to MQM, therefore killing of anyone in the city should not be blamed on any of the political parties.
He said ANP recognised Karachi as a part of Sindh province, however, called the huge population of Pukhuns in the metropolis a "reality". He said everyone had the right to come and seek employment in Karachi from any part of the country. Asfandyar Wali said there should not be a hold on the city by anyone and urged the political parties to stick to dialogue for solving problems. "On Karachi's situation, there should be a discussion," President ANP said.
He said Pukhtuns recognised the other ethnic and linguistic groups in Karachi and, therefore, desired to be also accepted as part of the urban society. To a question, he said ANP could not drag back its support from the PPP-led government for President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had always fulfilled its promises to his party.
"ANP will continue its support to the government and cannot leave it in the trouble time," he added. Regarding holding of the mid-term elections, Asfandyar Wali said the present government should be allowed to complete its five years term in office. "The country cannot afford holding of mid-term polls at the present situation," he said.
He said the Constitution had a five-year term for the elected government, which meant every government should stay in power for the specified span. "If someone wants mid-term polls then there should be an amendment in the Constitution to change the five-term to three-year," he suggested.
