Former test cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz Tuesday joined Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). He made this announcement at a joint press conference with MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar. MQM leaders Babar Ghauri, Raza Haroon and other prominent leaders were also present on the occasion.
Sarfraz Nawaz who served slain Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto as Advisor on Sports alleged that present PPP is involved in deep-rooted corruption that has marred the national institutions to a large extent. "My decision to join MQM is primarily the motivation to weed out corruption from the society," he said. He said that MQM is a party of middle class population and it can only save Pakistan from mismanagement and corruption.
Sarfraz Nawaz said his only intention to join MQM was to work for the poor, who have been suffering since inception of Pakistan and MQM is the only party that has agenda to serve the poor people of Pakistan. Whereas, no other political party has done any good for them, he said. He further said MQM resigned from ministerial slots but didn't compromise on fighting for the rights of poor people of Pakistan. On this occasion, Dr Farooq Sattar welcomed Sarfraz Nawaz for joining the party. He said the MQM was a national party and it now intends to establish itself in all parts of Punjab.
