Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh will brief the Cabinet on PML-N's 10-point agenda, which became the raison d'etre for the political divorce between the two parties, sources told Business Recorder.
Pakistan Muslim League (N) chief, Nawaz Shairf, in his press conference last week, after a detailed discussion with his senior party leaders, had stated that his party would have considered to remain an ally of PPP if that party had implemented even 30 percent of the 10-point agenda.
In response to Nawaz Sharif's press conference, a team of PPP, led by the Minister for Inter-Provincial Co-ordination, Raza Rabbani, refuted the claims of Nawaz Sharif, saying that progress on the 10-point agenda was satisfactory. However, some of the claims made by the PPP ministers, in the press conference, were far from reality.
Sources said that the Finance Minister would also give presentation on Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the country to oversee/discuss the trend of prices of essential commodities. The Cabinet in its last meeting had directed the Finance Ministry to brief the Cabinet regularly on CPI. The Cabinet will oversee the trend of prices of essential commodities as the first item on the agenda of its meetings.
Sources said that the Cabinet would also review the attitude of opposition and government allies towards recent about 10 percent increase in petroleum products prices. The Finance Minister will also brief the Cabinet about talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The Cabinet will accord approval to a Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening technical co-operation and road transport activities between Pakistan and China. Approval for signing of National Electronics Complex of Pakistan (NECOP) project sub-contract Phase-1 between Pakistan and China is also on the agenda of the Cabinet. This summary has been submitted by the Ministry of Defence. The Cabinet will also accord approval to a proposal regarding signing of protocol on co-operation of youth of Pakistan and Turkey.
Approval, in principle, to start negotiations on the agreement for establishment of Joint Economic Commission on economic co-operation between Pakistan and Ukraine and agreement on co-operation in the field of arts and creative studies between National College of Arts, Lahore, and University of Visual and Performing Arts, Sri Lanka, will also be approved by the Cabinet. Sources said that the Cabinet will accord ex post facto approval on an MoU between Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan for co-operation in the field of disaster management.
