All catholic educational and other institutions remained closed on Thursday in protest against the assassination of Minorities Affairs Minister, Shahbaz Bhatti on the call of Bishop Andrew Francis, Chairman of National Commission for Inter Religious Dialogue and Ecumenism and Bishop of Multan, Dr Andrew Francis.
Terming the murder by the extremists "brutal barbarism" and "senseless assassination", he observed that the minister was promoting peace and interfaith harmony in Pakistan and it is our duty not to let this cause die. He observed that former Punjab governor, Salmaan Taseer was killed by extremists and the minorities' minister, also, has been murdered for promoting interfaith peace in Pakistan and rights of religious groups. Concluding, the bishop said that late Shahbaz Bhatti's work for the human and minority rights is well known and he was a strong and courageous person.
