Punjab University Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that the present administration has been giving top preference to promote research culture at the varsity and the budget has been increased from rupees four million to Rs 70 million for the purpose.
He further said that the efforts of the administration has resulted in an improved position in HEC ranking of the varsities, saying PU got fourth position by publishing 352 research papers in the 'impact factor journals' in the year 2010, whereas it was placed at sixth position in 2009. He was talking to the representatives of Electronic Media Reporters Association (EMRA) during a lunch in their honour at Punjab University Executive Club, New Campus.
The VC said that the faculties have talented members and if the policies of the present administration continue in coming three to four years, PU would not only get first place among Pakistani varsities, but also make its room among the 200 top varsities of the world.
He informed that the administration is also focusing on increasing the number of PhD faculty members because a good strength of PhD teachers would help in publication of more research findings. He added that 80 teachers are doing their PhDs in foreign and 30-40 of them would join the varsity this year.
Professor Dr Kamran expressed hope that after their joining, PU would witness further improvement in the ranking next year. EMRA members, on the occasion, briefed the VC about the challenges being faced by them and sought the varsity's help for training media professionals, over which the VC assured them of an all-out co-operation.
