President, Karachi University Teachers Association (KUTS), Professor Dr Abid Hasnain has said the decisions Karachi University's Administration has taken by syndicate should be taken back or considered as null and void because they are controversial and against the university's codes.
Talking to Business Recorder during the academic council elections on Thursday he said the membership of six syndicate members had already expired before they attended the two meetings. KUTS don't know either it was a mistake or a deliberate step, but administration has not yet cleared the matter, Professor Hasnain added. The decision taken on Tuesday for launching campaign for the removal of syndicate's decision were the only solutions left with KUTS to save university's code, and now today we are wearing black bands to show our dissatisfaction over VC's attitude towards the solution of the pertaining matter, Professor Hasnain maintained.
According to KUTS, the three year membership of Professor Dr Farman Fatehpuri, Senator Haseeb Khan, MNA Khushbakht Shujaat, Sindh Minister Haji Muzzaffar Ali Shajra, Professor Anwar Jamal and Professor Saeed Siddiqui, the VC's nominees have already expired on January 25, 2011 and a letter for the same was also issued from the VC's office on January 26, 2008.
Whereas the registrar's office explains that the membership tenure begins with the first meeting of the syndicate body as per the university code. According to this, the membership of the members in question is valid till March 28. Dr Hasnain strongly opposed these decisions, alleging VC becomes hostage of some pressure and taking decisions according to that pressure group's wishes.
