The session of Punjab Assembly has been called on March 11, 2011 at 3pm and a notification in this regard has been issued by Punjab Governor, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa. Speaker Punjab Assembly, Rana Muhammad Iqbal will chair the session.
The assembly session will commence under the situation of existence of unification block and a dire resistance would be faced by the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz from Pakistan Peoples Party, one of the leading parties in the country sitting on opposition benches.
In the session, PPP would be playing a strong opposition for the very first time since inception of the current assembly. Another aspect of the scenario is PPP and Pakistan Muslim League, Quaid-e-Azam joining hands against the government for the very first time.
The current strength of Punjab Assembly is 370 while the original strength of the Punjab Assembly remains at 371. The unification group claims to have 47 members out of this strength. The total member strength of leading national party PPP is 107 while PML-N possesses strength of 171 member strength in the assembly. With the formation of the unification block, original strength of PML-Q has receded from 84 to 33.
Meanwhile Chaudhry Zaheer-u-Din, parliamentary leader of PML-Q has recently averred that a reference against nine members of unification group has been filed with the Speaker. He added that further references are likely to be filed in the assembly against the renegade group of their party. He also hinted of proceedings against the group in the election commission.
With the resigning of unification group members from the standing committees, the vacant spots are likely to be filled in during the session. Punjab Assembly is also likely to see passing of certain bills during the forthcoming session of the provincial assembly.
