Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday launched the new National Emergency Action Plan for Polio Eradication by administering polio drops to few children. The inauguration ceremony of the campaign was held here at the National Institute of Health.
The three-day house to house polio campaign will be held across the country from March 7 to 9. This round of National Immunisation Days (NIDs) will be held in all districts and agencies of FATA of the country. According to NIH sources, around 37.69 million doses will be used to vaccinate approximately 32.66 million target children under the age of 5-years.
The support has been given to the districts to use services of 88,000 teams, 15,822 area incharges, 2,777 zonal supervisors and 873 campaign support persons. In addition, World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) staff recruited for the support of Polio Eradication Activities is also available in most of the districts of the country for assistance of the districts.
Tally sheets, finger markers, forms for missed children, mosque flyer and school flyers have been despatched to all districts of the country. UNICEF Country office has also sent funds to districts for social mobilisation activities, planning meetings at district level and orientation meetings of teams to be used in the field.
WHO Country office has sent operational cost to districts for field teams, area in charges, zonal supervisors and their transportation expenses for the fieldwork The federal team has also supported the provinces in the development of 33 district specific plans and development of FATA agencies specific plans.
