Smartphone manufacturer Samsung has struck once again by creating world’s first 512GB embedded Universal Flash Storage (eUFS).

Till now, the phones come in with maximum storage of 256GB in the case of iPhone 8. Samsung created its new 512GB chip that is double the space of internal storage of a smartphone. Samsung’s future phones are expected to come with this new chip.

Samsung says that the chip will contain eight 64-layer 512GB V-NAND chips. Though double the storage and density, the chip will take up the same amount of physical space required by a Samsung’s 256GB chip. The chip can read and write new information with a speed of 860MB per second and 255MB per second respectively – eight times faster than the normal processing speed of a microSD card, wrote Tech Juice.

The South Korean giant asserted that the new 512GB chip contains the ability to store over 130 10-minute UHD videos that is a plus point for phones contains 4K video recording feature.

Moreover, by increasing the storage chip size, Samsung is targeting the automobile market because cars will need to record great volumes of sensor data in future too. The company, however, is focusing on next-generation smartphone and tablets for its chip, as it believes them to be the ideal candidates for it.

According to CNET, Samsung will expand its production of the 256GB chips too.
