Head of Hamara Karachi Foundation and former Naib Nazim (deputy mayor) of Karachi Ms Nasreen Jalil vowed on Sunday to promote donkey-cart race and urged the government authorities to patronise this sport like others.
"The people of Lyari take part in donkey-cart race being a traditional sport of the city and we all should appreciate and promote it as we want to live here like brothers without discrimination of cast and creed," she said while addressing the participants of donkey-cart race at Jahangir Kothari Parade at Clifton.
Administrator of Keamari town, Ghulam Asghar Wagan, Administrator of Saddar town, Mukhtar Hussain and others were present. The donkey-cart race started from Gulbai and ended at Kothari Parade. The donkey-cart driver Peeral won the first position by covering 13km distance in 18 minutes while Muhammad Saeed secured second and Kamo Shah was declared third.
Nasreen Jalil gave away Rs.10, 000/- to first position holder, Rs.7000/- to second and Rs.5000/- to third. Rs.500/- each were paid to all those who took part in the race.
