President Asif Ali Zardar on Tuesday night assured Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain to remove all the MQM's reservations. President Asif Ali Zaradri gave the assurance during a telephonic conversation with Altaf Hussain.
A four-member delegation of MQM led by Dr Farooq Sattar called on President Asif Ali Zardari here at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday night and discussed with him the situation in Karachi, with particular reference to the recent events that had created tension between the coalition partners. During the meeting, President Zardari also consulted MQM chief Altaf Hussain in London on telephone and discussed points raised by the MQM delegation.
Members of the delegation included Senator Babar Ghauri, Raza Haroon and Dr Saghir Ahmed. Rehman Malik, Federal Minister for Interior, and Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar were also present during the meeting.
Sources said that the MQM delegation expressed concern over the statement of Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza. The meeting was held on one point agenda pertaining to the situation created by the statement of Zulfiqar Mirza. Taking notice of the recent developments in Karachi and the issues raised by the delegation the PPP co-chairman assured that he would convene a meeting of the Sindh Governor, Chief Minister and provincial leaders of the party within a week to thrash out the issues raised by the MQM delegation.
He also assured that criminal elements would be dealt with an iron hand and every citizen of Karachi would be provided security. He assured that no criminal would be allowed to seek shelter behind political facade of any sort. He said that political forces should also be watchful and guard against elements seeking to drive a wedge between them and creating conditions of anarchy. The MQM delegation thanked President Zardari for the meeting. The meeting lasted about two hours.
