The second phase of National Poverty Targeting Survey (NPTS) under Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has been launched in Karachi's Malir District area, says a press release issued here on Wednesday. A gathering of provincial legislators and prominent notables of Malir District was held at Daffodils Lawn, located in Main Jinnah Avenue Malir Karachi.
"The house to house survey has been initiated by the officials of BISP and will cover other areas of Malir Districts as well," Razzak Baloch President PPP Malir and Noman Murad Baloch said while inaugurating the programme. He said the survey will be without any discrimination and consideration of affiliations of people with any political party. Razzak Baloch said the programme also includes other categories including Waseela Haq, Waseela-e-Sehat, Waseela-e-Rozgar and Life Insurance programme of BISP.
Ilyas Soomro Director Karachi said that the nation-wide Poverty Survey is being conducted throughout Pakistan with tremendous pace and it is expected that the survey would be completed by June 30, 2011. He also briefs the local people about the programme and salient features to get eligible for registration. Once the process of survey and data entry is completed, Cash Grants are being released immediately to new families getting registered with BISP. The Survey is instrumental in identifying deserving families in more transparent, scientific and efficient manner.
Under the BISP, the deserving families will be given Rs 1000. First phase of the Survey in Sindh province was conducted in Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar and Sanghar. The BISP was initiated by Government of Pakistan with initial allocation of Rs 34 billion in the fiscal year 2008-09.
