Kidnapping of the staff in a Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) Mobile Van from Airport Road Rawalpindi seems politically motivated move, as some forces are not in favour of increase in the number of registered persons, Business Recorder learnt reliably.
After government decision to prepare fresh electoral rolls by using Nadra, some political forces are facing frustration and are using negative tricks to derail the process, sources in interior ministry revealed to this scribe. The Toyota Primo car (AKD-271), which intercepted the mobile van of Nadra is belonging to a local politician is still at large and police is not ready to give any information regarding the car, Interior Ministry sources said.
The Interior Ministry received an application from Nadra headquarters regarding the illegal confinement of Nadra staff and causing hurdles in performing national duty by Punjab Police, they said, adding that the matter was raised with Punjab Police high ups.
Rawalpindi Police was directed to ensure the quick recovery of the car, which intercepted the Nadra Mobile Registration Van and the armed men riding the car, Interior Ministry sources said, adding that the matter would be investigated by FIA.
Civil Lines Police Rawalpindi impounded 1,421 CNICs from Nadra Mobile Van, claiming that Nadra staff was involved in making forged CNICs. Challenging the notion of the Rawalpindi Police Nadra spokesman said that Police, Media and common people can check the CNICs by using Nadra's sms service of 7000.
He said that Nadra has raised the matter in writing with Interior Ministry to take up the issue with Punjab Police so that people involved in the crime including armed men and police officials be taken to task. SHO of Civil Lines, Rawalpindi should be asked for illegal detention of Nadra mobile van with female staff performing national duty of registration, he added.
He said that it is matter of highhandedness as Punjab Police helped armed men to take the Nadra Mobile Registration Van and its staff to police station. Armed men riding a white colour Toyota Primo (AKD-271) stopped the Nadra Van, saying that it hit their car and Punjab Police personnel arrived and spotted their guns towards female Nadra officials and took them to Civil Lines Police Station. He said that in police station they were told that they were making fake computerised national identity cards (CNICs).
On special request of people living in Behria Town, mobile van was sent to help people in the newly established locality to get their cards modified and if not registered then get registered, Nadra spokesman revealed to the scribe on Wednesday. He said that Nadra Mobile vans were registering people for the last many years and on March 8, 2011, mobile vans were performing their normal duties as it was the Women's Day, Nadra mobile vans were registering women throughout Pakistan free-of-cost under Nadra's special campaign, which was publicised in media as well, he added.
There were around 1,421 CNICs of the citizens in the mobile van and the citizens submitted their CNICs with Nadra staff for making alterations in their names, addresses or other information, he said, adding that how come they know they are forged CNICs as mobile van is not issuing CNICs, it is Nadra headquarter where CNICs are being printed after passing dozens of security checks.
He said that at 3.30 pm Nadra filed an FIR in Koral Police Station, regarding the kidnapping of its staff including three female officials and driver along with the car. He said that the illegal detention of the mobile van and interruption in government procedures is a severe crime and vested interests are putting impediments in the registration process to deprive the citizens of the basic rights.
