The construction of the Intercity Bus Terminal faces uncertainty as the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) is still awaiting the transfer of the allotted land by the higher authorities, official sources told Business Recorder on Thursday. According to sources the 100-acre of the required piece of land has not been transferred yet, therefore, work on the terminal project could not be initiated.
They said that the Sindh High Court has already given its ruling ordering to shift all the intercity bus stations to the Super Highway terminal (Intercity Bus Terminal); yet no action has been taken. The officials also informed that the CDGK was planning to utilise the space available under the bridges and flyovers and a study has also been carried out in this regard. They said bridges falling under the authority of other bodies would be assisted by CDGK if requested.
Giving details, the sources said that the space could be used for the parking of ambulances or could be utilised for fire stations or by law enforcement agencies. In this way, they added, the encroachment of such spaces could be controlled. They said that to ensure the free flow of traffic on bridges, a plan is under consideration to introduce confined areas for pedestrians to cross the bridges.
